POOL RULES AND MAP

Phase Presidents

BUSINESS: I started my working career as an apprentice trained fitter at a Steel Works in the Black Country, near the Cradley area where I was born. Little did I know where my career would end up. I was made redundant in the early 80’s and had various jobs in five years, until one day I saw an advert for a job in the petrol station window where I parked my car for the baggies homegames (West Bromwich Albion). I have had a season ticket on and off over some forty years. I got that job, and started work for Mobil, progressed from forecourt manager to internal audit then to the fraud audit team. Then part of Mobil was taken over by BP and no job was available for me, other than a weekly contract for a
year.

Then I got a job in Health & Safety, not a subject that floated my boat at the time, but it was the making of me. Various promotions over the next few years saw me progress from the forecourt side to the fuel delivery fleet, eventually responsible for maintaining legal and corporate compliance for the whole UK petrol tanker fleet. And if that wasn’t enough, I was also the accident investigator covering again the whole of the UK alone for the first 8 years, then leading a team.

I took a Health & Safety degree at night school, difficult when I spent probably an average of three nights per week away from home every week for nearly 20 years, but I loved my work. Then BP outsourced transport so I was made redundant again. That was 4 years ago.

I then set up my own business, making a vow only to work half of the year; the other half I spend here in Spain at HR. The business is really successful, I train companies in Root Cause Investigations, Driving Safety, Tiredness and Fatigue particularly for HGV drivers, and my bread and butter is ADR training which is the carriage of dangerous goods by road e.g., fuels, chemicals etc.

HACIENDA RIQUELME: We bought in 2015, having looked around the whole area, this resort just shouted out to us.

I volunteered to support our BP in 2018 as it wasn’t his choice to do the role, and I found it very enjoyable and fulfilling. So, volunteering for the job full time was a natural progression. When Rod said he was thinking of retiring from Phase President it didn’t take much convincing for me to volunteer. I don’t plan to fill Rod’s shoes, that’s not possible, I shall wear my own shoes, and hopefully add something new of my own to the board and how this resort operates.

PERSONAL: I live with my wife, soul mate and golfing partner Annette. My handicap is 19, some will say Annette’s handicap is me; seriously she plays off 6 and is super competitive. Annette is fully retired from her career as a SOCO (forensic scenes of crime officer). We both love many sports as well as a passion for walking and landscape photography. I am also the gardener, something I inherited. Although we have to comply with the Schengen agreement, we have all our holidays here in Spain spreading our 5 months cross the whole year.
